The CAA’s General Aviation Unit will be running a series of roadshows across the UK in late March and April 2017 to discuss regulatory developments.

The roadshow programme will cover:

  • Implementation of Part-DTO (Declared Training Organisation)
  • Update on the efforts to reduce Airspace Infringements
  • Implementation of Part-SPO (Special Operations)
  • Implementation of Part-ML and Combined Airworthiness Organisation.

To make the events accessible to the entire GA Community, it has been decided to send the invitation out to all flying schools (RTFs and ATOs), Continuing Airworthiness Maintenance Organisations and associated Maintenance Providers in the UK. This audience is being targeted in the belief that these organisations are best equipped to disseminate the information among the community at large.

Dates and locations

  • Thursday 16 March Weston-super-Mare
  • Tuesday 21 March Perth
  • Thursday 23 March Antrim
  • Tuesday 28 March Huddersfield
  • Wednesday 29 March Kettering
  • Tuesday 4 April Gatwick Airport

Please note that if there is insufficient numbers at any of the venues, the CAA reserves the right to cancel that particular event and re-allocate booked attendees to another venue

It should be noted that all of the venues are limited for space and the CAA can only accept a maximum of two delegates from each organisation and at one event only.

We have selected venues which provide easy access and allow delegates from across the UK to attend. If any delegate requires special assistance can they please let us know, so we can pass this on to the venue.

Attendance will be free of charge. The timing and the order of presentation will be confirmed in the joining instructions. The plan for the day will be:

09:00-09:30 Registration
09:30-12:15 Morning session
12:15-13:00 Lunch
13:15-16:00 Afternoon session
16:00-16:30 Questions and closure

We recognise that not all of the information we are covering will be applicable to all. Those delegates intending to stay for the whole day should make it clear when responding to the invitation. Lunch will not be provided but there will be facilities on site for delegates to use.

How to register
If you wish to attend one of these roadshows please send an email to and use the subject title ‘GA Unit Roadshows’ (it is important that you use this subject title to ensure prompt processing of the request for registration).

The email should specify:

  1. The Organisation name and type (eg: Pilot Training or Maintenance)
  2. The name and post of the delegate/s (remember we can only accept two)
  3. Your first and second choice venue/s (and dates)
  4. E-mail address and telephone number on which you can be contacted
  5. Special assistance (if necessary).

“We will attempt to allocate first choice venues wherever possible,” said the CAA. “However, due to space limitations, we may need to allocate requests to their second choice. A second roadshow at Gatwick may be held if there is sufficient demand and we cannot accommodate people at other venues. We reserve the right to allocate places at the proposed second date at Gatwick.

“You will receive an email notification that your application has been accepted, the location of the event and joining instructions.”

All requests for attendance must be received no later than Tuesday 28 February 2017. The CAA says it cannot guarantee places at any venues if the application is received after this date.
